IGN reviews CINDY #1

November 5, 2009

I have waited a long, long time for this project to finally become a reality. Ever since she first appeared in the Fables series some 60 issues ago, Cinderella has captured my imagination and interest. I'm a huge espionage/spy genre fan, and to take Bill Willingham's genius universe and spin it in that direction just seemed a natural fit. Cindy, not Jack, was the character I wanted to see receive her own ongoing.

I'm not huge on the Jack of Fables series. I don't think I've really made a secret of that. That dislike largely comes from the Jack character himself. I've loathed his pompous attitude from Day One, and his series very much adopted those characteristics as its defining traits. That wasn't the type of story that I wanted to read. The similarity between this Cinderella mini-series and its Jack "counterpart" is that it too takes on the personality of its main character. So that means you get something energetic, amusing, carefree and truly joyous. I have yet to get a full sense of writer Chris Roberson's take on Cindy, but assuming he works with the foundation set by Willingham, we're all in for a treat.
