SCALPED #32 reviewed on IGN

October 19, 2009

Scalped is one of those perennial books I always complain about having to review, not because it's lousy, but because it's so consistently good. Having taken a long hiatus from reviewing the series, I still find little has changed regarding the quality of Scalped. It remains a gripping crime drama with a bleak setting and some very dark, conflicted characters.

All that's really changed for Scalped in the current arc, "The Gnawing", is that both Dashiell Bad Horse and Chief red Crow are faced with a growing list of life-and-death problems. Dash knows his cover is about to be blown, forcing him to quickly find definitive evidence against Red Crow so that the FBI can make their arrest. Red Crow, meanwhile, let his temper instigate a war against the Hmong gang that bankrolled his casino. It's nasty business that's about to get much nastier. With so many chickens coming home to roost, it's beginning to feel as if Scalped is building towards its climax. Jason Aaron hasn't given that impression so far, but I still find myself wondering very much which characters will still be standing at the end of this arc.
