A lot has been said about the J. H. Williams III art that now graces the pages of Detective Comics. Most readers I know show up explicitly for that reason, to behold the whimsical, fantastical world that Williams has created for Kate Kane unfold and open like twisted flower. In that respect, this is the best issue of Detective yet.

Here's an experiment for those who've already read the issue. Flip through it and try to follow the story using only the art. I think you'll find every single emotion and beat that Greg Rucka has outlined for the book comes across crystal clear. It's a testament to Williams's much-praised art that this issue is capable of such a thing.
