DC Nation: Want to know my favorite Justice League team?

July 8, 2009

Now, I could just reply, "Whatever team we are currently publishing." It's a safe answer for sure, after all, we just launched JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE, written by the immensely talented James Robinson and featuring some of DC's finest painted art from Mauro Cascioli, and that very same James Robinson will soon be joined by artist extraordinaire Mark Bagley, as the new regular team on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. So, what's not to love?

And while the soon-to-be current team will feature a golden gorilla, a couple of Teen Titans graduates and a forgotten hero or two, there is no denying that they are the Justice League, because with every challenge they face, they will show the strength, determination, and heart it takes to be a member of this team. The Justice League is an elite team but not a team of elitists. They are the Justice League of America, the world's greatest super-heroes, a team that defines heroes and not one that is defined by them.

Simple as that.

So, what's my favorite lineup? I do have a favorite, you know. And while I won't name names, I will present what I remember most about them and what made my favorite team great.

There were the classic heroes that led by example, inspiring most but still a point of concern for others. And there was the member who saw the world as alien, desperately trying to fit in but never forgetting what it took to be a hero. There was the lovable hero, whose lighter approach helped brighten the darkest of situations. There were the two heroes who were constantly at odds, but their fighting never hid their true friendship. There was a member of royalty and a beauty who brought compassion and power. And last, there were the members who mastered time and space.

There you go, my favorite team. Add that to incredible crossovers, special guest stars, world-threatening villains and you'll agree that the Justice League has been and will continue to be the premier super team.

To be continued….
